There are just so many photos of our trip I want to post - there really is something quite romantic and inspiring about being in a city that for the most part has canals instead of streets. And it wasn't just the kids who thought so. The architecture was amazing, especially when you think that it's supported on wooden poles, to keep it from sinking into the sea.
And of course the bridges were both a novelty and a complete pain in the you know what, since the crowds - keeping in mind this is the off-season on a Thursday - were fairly large and it meant a lot of traffic jams. Folks wanted to stop and take pictures all the time, but look at how narrow the path is. Not a lot of space for walking around people, especially with a little G on your back.

And looking the other way - the triangle building marks the beginning of the Grand Canal, which then wends its way up towards the right.
What would Italy be without food and drink. Even the recalcitrant teenager had a good time. It was nice to just get out of Kyiv and be somewhere different where the pressures weren't there and we could think straight for a while.
Of course pizza was the highlight of the entire trip. For everyone. What a look of happiness.

This is one of the water taxis, which we took in place of the more expensive gondola option. They were very comfortable (provided they didn't steam up the windows when it was raining) and the kids thought it was really neat.
